Thousand Trails Colorado River RV Campground

The last stop in our Thousand Trails Texas edition is Colorado River RV Campground. This park was unique in the fact it was a lot smaller than the others in Texas, with only 138 sites, but was still packing a big punch. It is mainly geared for RV’s and not so much tent camping. At first we were a little taken back by the lack of trees and foliage separating the sites, unlike the other larger grounds we visited that felt a little more like they were deep in the woods.

We soon found the popularity of this location is mainly because it is a hybrid between your smaller typical high amenity packed RV parks and your older large acreage campgrounds with more privacy. While the campsites are close, without much separation, there are plenty of woods and hiking trails within the park to roam around in. We too found comfort in this middle ground after immediately meeting our neighbor across  the way, who quickly rushed over as we parked warning us about a soggy patch of grass and mud from the rain the night before. Being so close to your neighbors helps force the relationships and we found this campground to be full of friendly and smiling faces. It’s contagious!

Grounds/Sites

(map)  I really liked the layout of this park. It was right on the Colorado River and amongst a few small Pecan groves that made it really unique. There are a few miles of hiking trails right in the park that went around the perimeter and through the woods.

Amenities

Most all the Thousand Trails  we have been at have had some sort of mini golf course, but this one was massive. It was right by the large Pecan grove and could have easily been a small par three! The bath house was just re-done and was the nicest I’ve ever seen at a campground. During our January visit the pool was still closed for the winter season, but looked nice and large. The activity center was on the smaller side and a little out dated, but did have a pool table, fitness room, and library. We really enjoyed our four nights at Colorado River and look forward to a revisit! Also, check out our overview of Thousand Trails.
