SPICY GREEN BEANS

This spicy green beans recipe is an easy way to get vegetables in at your meal.  They are spicy, salty, tangy, and addictive.  Whip them up in less than 15 minutes and let them be the star of the meal.  Pair easily with a rotisserie chicken or grilled meat.

If you don’t have any chili garlic sauce you can use sriracha or dried red pepper flakes in its place.  Here is the brand I buy, found in the International/Asian isle at most grocers.

Sesame oil, Bragg’s Liquid Aminos, and unseasoned rice wine vinegar are always in my pantry and I use them on a weekly basis to pull together an easy stir fry that is packed with flavor.  Check out this link for more info on what Bragg’s Liquid Aminos is and some ideas to use it. Whenever I am craving something extra tasty I tend to make an Asain stir fry.  The ingredients work well with a variety of meats and vegetables and keep them healthy.

You always want to include fibrous vegetables at every meal.  This can be an adjustment for many people and challenging to incorporate.  Start with just adding in one more serving per day.  Maintain that for a few weeks then bump in another serving.  Continue to work your way up.  This dish is a great example of a recipe that will help you add more veggies in with ease.

Cuisine Chinese
Servings 2 servings

Ingredients

  • 2 tsp olive oil
  • ½ pound fresh green beans trimmed washed, and dried
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 green onion stalks sliced on a bias
  • 1 ½ tsp garlic minced
  • 2 ½ tsp liquid aminos
  • 1 tsp garlic chili sauce
  • 2 tsp unseasoned rice wine vinegar
  • ½ tsp white sesame seeds

Instructions

  • Place a large 12” skillet or wok over high heat. Add olive oil and swirl to coat, then add green beans. Let the beans get as much surface area as possible to get a nice sear on the beans, cooking for 5 minutes. You want to get some brown chars and wrinkles on the beans.
  • Turn heat down to medium-high and create an empty space in the center of pan by pushing the beans out to the side. Add the sesame oil, then the garlic and green onion and cook for about a minute careful not to burn.
  • Next, add in the liquid aminos, garlic chili sauce, and rice wine vinegar. Toss until the beans are evenly coated.
  • Top with sesame seeds and serve.
