TZATZIKI SAUCE
Tzatziki sauce is delicious and is easy to make at home in a short amount of time. Tzatziki, also known as “gyro sauce”, or “cucumber sauce”, is often a crowd pleaser! I make mine with Greek yogurt, cucumber, lemon, apple cider vinegar, garlic, salt, pepper, and dill. Simple ingredients with tremendous results.
As a health-conscious cook, I am always trying to make my own everything from scratch. It tastes better, is often cheaper, and you can control the quality of ingredients. I use Greek yogurt as the base of this sauce. Greek yogurt has so many uses! I like to keep one or two of the single-serving containers in my tiny RV refrigerator at all times. It is the perfect “multi-functional” ingredient to keep on hand for when a surprising use pops up. You can use Greek yogurt in smoothies, protein shakes, yogurt parfaits, in place of sour cream, as a creamy salad dressing, as a meat marinade, and of course, as a dip. Food Network shares 16 Uses for Greek Yogurt, if you are looking for more ideas check that out.
Pair this tzatziki up with my Pork Souvlaki for a perfect flavor combination. Other uses for this sauce are dipping vegetables, slathering on pita bread, topping meat such as lamb or chicken, pairing with fish or falafel, in mashed potatoes, as a salad dressing (my favorite!).
Feel free to customize this recipe to your own liking. The fresh mint or the fresh dill is optional. Play around with both varieties and see what you like best! Another way to customize this recipe is with your garlic level. Some people really love raw garlic and others find it harsh. Dial it up or down based on your preference.
